Space systems have rapidly become like breathing for today's warfare commander a necessity for survival. However, the proliferation of space technology has begun to crowd the space and tip the balance once overwhelmingly in the United States' favor. This paper outlines the current and projected commercial-based space systems that will likely become available to those nations that have limited capability today. Further, it proposes to US operational commanders what this potential offsetting situation means and how this will affect his control of space. It suggests that he may have little capability to control all scenarios, and if this is the case, suggests the options that best exploit his own assets and limit the effectiveness of the opposition.
