The goal of the project was to create a test-bed to allow the University of California to conduct advanced traffic technology research in a designated, non-public, and controlled setting. Caltrans, with its associated research facilities on UC campuses, previously lacked a test-bed to conduct experimental development of advanced traffic technologies, e.g., intersection collision warning.
