This appropriation provides for the cost of operating the Naval Reserve forces and maintaining their assigned equipment at a state of readiness which will permit rapid employment in the event of full or partial mobilization. These forces, consisting primarily of ships and aircraft and the personnel to man them, are a vital part of the Navy's total force. The cost of operating and maintaining aircraft in the Fourth Marine Air Wing is also contained in this appropriation. The Operation and Maintenance, Navy Reserve appropriation consists of three budget activities: 1 - Mission Forces; 2 - Depot Maintenance; and 3 - Other Support. Mission Forces funding provides for the operation and maintenance of Reserve force ships and aircraft. In addition, funding to operate and maintain the air stations, Reserve centers and Reserve facilities supporting the Naval Reserve forces is included. Depot Maintenance funding provides support for the Reserve aircraft rework program. All depot maintenance in support of afloat forces is included within Mission Forces.
