A procedure for the prediction of powering requirements and vertical accelerations at the preliminary design stage is presented for planing hulls with propellers on inclined shafts. Envelopes of operating speed versus wave height are developed based on (1) maximum speed in seaway due to limits of the prime movers and/or propellers and (2) human endurance limits due to vertical accelerations. Complete documentation of the computer program is provided in the appendix. Sample computations and plots are presented for a typical planing craft. (Author)
