The use of time-frequency techniques to improve the information at the disposal of navigators and reduce the risk of collision of ships is examined. A system is described which permits the distance, the speed and ship's heading of every ship to be obtained directly. It consists of surveying the bearing with the help of static antennas of small volume. The procedures used to measure the distance under conditions of a poor signal/noise ratio and for that of the bearing are described. (Author)
