The objective of the research project was to investigate the safety performance of the W-beam to thrie beam transition element used in conjunction with an approach guardrail transition attached to Missouri's thrie beam and chnnel bridge railing. This approach guardrail transition was selected since it was representative of the recently developed thrie beam transitions meeting the NCHRP Report No. 350 impact safety standards. Finally, the W-beam to thrie beam transition element was to be evaluated according to the Test Level 3 (TL-3) safety performance criteria set forth in NCHRP Report No. 350.
