Maintenance action is proposed consisting of dredging the New York and New Jersey Channels to authorized projected dimensions. The dredged spoil would be deposited in approved dumping grounds in the New York Bight in the Atlantic Ocean. The project would permit continued safe and economical use of the channels, yielding transportation savings and contributing to the economic vitality of the region. There would be removal of bottom substrata and temporary turbidity with its associated effects on local marine life. Dredged spoil would be disposed of in the ocean.
