US military transportation is arranged by the three Transportation Operating Agencies (TOA). The Military Transportation Management Command, as the overall coordinator of movements, selects routes and modes of transport and prepares for the movements connections. The Military Airlift Command and the Military Sealift Command have the responsibility of matching requirements with lift resources. A prototype of a ship allocation and cargo scheduling model is now being developed and tested for the Military Sealift Command. (ERA citation 11:053041)
