The Weather Satellite Data Handling System is designed to process weather data received by the NASA Command and Data Acquisition stations at Gilmore Creek, Alaska, and Wallops Island, Virginia. Data from the TOS and ITOS series of satellites is received from the existing TOSCOM communications network at Offutt AFB, Nebraska, via a special X-136 wideband data terminal. The satellite signal at Offutt is recorded and/or transmitted over a second X-136 circuit to Monterey, California, where the data is processed at the Fleet Numerical Weather Center. The final report provides a study of the system configuration and operational capabilities; it also includes specifications of the overall system and each major item of hardware. (Author)
