This report gives a detailed description of the CRREL Instrumented Vehicle (CIV). The CIV is equipped with instrumentation to measure three mutually perpendicular forces acting at the interface between the front tires and any surface material. In addition, accurate wheel and vehicle speeds and rear axle torque are measured. The vehicle is equipped for front-wheel, rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. A dual brake system allows front-, rear- or four-wheel braking. A minicomputer-based data acquisition system is installed in the vehicle to control data gathering and to process data. The software for data acquisition and manipulation and the interfacing techniques required are described. (Author)
