The study examined the yaw stability of tractor-semitrailers under pure cornering conditions, with no braking. The particular stability mode which was of interest could be called the jackknife mode, although the divergent response which can occur is much less violent than that which occurs when tractor rear wheels are braked to the point of lockup.
