The paper presents a description of a system for the direct measurement of water vapor flux which was developed by ESSA personnel and employed on an ESSA Research Flight Facility DC-6 aircraft during the Barbados Oceanographic and Meteorological Experiment in May-July 1969. A gust probe was used for the vertical wind measurement, and a microwave refractometer system was used for the humidity. Each of these are discussed along with a summary of the recording techniques, the pattern flown, and the data reduction procedures. (Author)
