The intermediate flight opportunities (IFO) are studied. The main tasks include the definition of a small platform that could accommodate a variety of payloads recoverable or not. The requirements include availability, optimization for low life cycle costs and large flexibility for payloads and launchers. The funds for one year of Columbus operations are sufficient to develop and fly an IFO type platform with reentry capsule 10 to 20 times before Columbus.
