Increasingly, given areas or through routes are being 'selectively' closed to motor vehicles. In fact, when this happens, it means there is only limited access to a road or given area, whether for certain periods of the day, or for specific groups of road users. Therefore, one could use the term 'restricted access', but given that, in principle, a road is there to be used, there is also justification for a different approach. In this publication, this latter, positive approach has been singled out, i.e. the granting of restricted access. However, in order for this to be implemented, it follows that routes will still need to be closed in the first place.
