Function and status of the Autonomous Payload Control (APC) Flight Demonstration projects are reviewed. The APC rocket experiment, the technology driver for a future autonomous payload is at protosystems readiness, whereas the satellite experiment (APC-SATEX) was split in two parts due to the restrictions imposed by the satellite. Details on the SATEX-1 payload at the end of the phase-A studies are summarized. The projects study packet telemetry, onboard trajectory determination, multisensor based attitude filtering and calculation of Euler angles, attitude cross-check by a CCD coastline sensor, and near real time ground data distribution by an X.25 compatible network by telephone at 1.2 kbs.
