Automatic landing control is performed by remote image processing via a hierarchic structured computer system where all flight motion degrees of freedom are individually controlled. A concept for automatic landing by computer vision is developed and tested in computer simulation conditions. Special image processing and hardware permits real time treatment of landing area geometry, perspective transformations, and dynamic aircraft motion modeling. Analysis of real landing operation demonstrates that data acquisition is valuable not only in laboratory conditions.
