The ESA multimission mirror furnace module (M4) and fluid science module (FSM) were launched by sounding rocket and achieved 7 min 15 sec microgravity flight. The M4 studied meniscus stability in immiscibles, with no problems, and coalescence in immiscible alloys, where although the furnace stopped just after melting phase (due to failure of a standard 5V regulator) interesting results are obtained. The FSM studied thermal conductivity in liquids (no problems); thermocapillary drop motion, where drop composition problems did not prevent encouraging results being obtained; and three-dimensional Marangoni convection (no problems).
