The device utilizes a crushable energy dissipating material which is especially adapted for use as a shock absorber in the landing gear system of a vehicle designed to land on a planet or satellite. The space vehicle has four main struts and bracing struts. The shock absorber could be used to dissipate unusual impacts on automobile bumpers. It can also be used on car stoppers at the end of railway spur lines.
