The computer program CONTRAM (Continuous Traffic Assignment Model) has been implemented and put into operation in Dordrecht, Netherlands. CONTRAM simulates and evaluates traffic control in an urban area and makes it possible to evaluate the impact of traffic control on the energy consumption, travelling times and delays, length of traffic jams, traffic intensity and travelled distances. First the characteristics of the program are shortly described. Then attention is paid to the collection of input data. Subsequently the actual project is dealt with. Six simulations were carried out of which the first three had the purpose to describe the present evening rush hours. Then five variants for traffic regulations and traffic measures are simulated. The simulated versions are aimed at the traffic policy incorporated in the draft of the city plan of Dordrecht. Special attention is paid to the energy conservation realized by the different simulated versions. 10 figs., 5 refs., 4 tabs., 5 apps. (ERA citation 15:000000)
