The Port of Ponce constitutes a key element of the economical infrastructure of the Municipality of Ponce and its region of influence. The objectives of this Master Plan are essentially three: (1) to indicate which developmental measures will assure that the Port of Ponce will regain and, from there on, improve its share of the actual and potential maritime activity of the Island; (2) to formulate those measures in a manner which maximizes their cost-effeciency, and allow for a profitable operation of the port; and (3) to assure the role of the Port as a key element in promoting economic development and well-being both for the Municipality of Ponce and for its region of influence in the south coast.
