The objective of the project was to evaluate an electronic sequential multi-point injection fuel system on a natural gas-fueled automotive medium-duty engine. This included an evaluation of gaseous fuel injectors, cylinder-to-cylinder fuel-air distribution measurement, performance measurements, exhaust emissions measurements (pre- and post-catalyst), and an oxygen sensor comparison. One additional objective was to run the fuel system in a 'pre-mix' configuration, where fuel and air are mixed for a homogeneous-charge prior to cylinder admission, for comparison to the sequential multi-point fuel system.
