The report describes the results of Phase 6 of a continuing multidisciplinary accident investigation research program sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration . It summarizes the results of a comprehensive and systematic study of twenty-two vehicular accidents which occurred in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, during the period October, 1971, to September, 1972. The research was a broadbased team effort which involved the participation of civil engineers, physicians, and automotive technician, a pathologist, social workers, and a secretary. Each accident investigation included a study of the factors which contributed to the crash as well as an in-depth study of the 'second collision' to establish the kinematics of the occupants and to identify the agents which caused the injuries and deaths.
