A statistical study, based on one year's historical data, was made on the effects of certain policy changes on both cargo aircraft maintenance manhours and aircraft out-of-commission time. The results indicated that manhours was highly sensitive to flying hours, but not in constant proportion as iimplied in the generally used term, manhours/ flying hour. Sortie length and number of landings per sortie have no apparent effects on manhours, judging from the sample data. It was further discovered that manhour changes may be expected if an aircraft is deployed either to Pacific Air Forces or Reserve/Guard units. Further mnahours were found to be highly correlated with aircraft complexity as primarily measured by aircraft empty weight. (Author)
