Mission selection and mission planning for the ESA comet nucleus sample return mission definition study are summarized. The options of an aphelion rendezvous with chemical propulsion and an Earth gravity assist, and a periphelion rendezvous with solar electric propulsion are concentrated on. Launch options taken into account are shuttle with upper stage or an expendable launcher (e.g., Ariane 5). Capture at Earth return is by a chemical retro maneuver or preferably by guided atmosphere passages. Navigational aspects of interplanetary cruise and comet approach are presented, and a sequence of mission events is outlined.
