This study is in fulfillment of a request from the Congress that the Secretary of Transportation prepare a report on off-highway recreational fuel consumption. The report addresses the energy conservation potential of motorized recreational vehicles, including, but not limited to, aircraft and motor boats which are designed for recreational use. The report defines the general characteristics of recreational motor vehicles; delineates industry, market and owner characteristics; examines possible fuel conservation options under alternative scenarios; estimates fuel conservation potential; and provides general recommendations for future energy conservation programs.
