The report is part of a series that presents findings from the 1977 Nationwide Personal Transportation Study (NPTS). This report contains average vehicle occupancy rates by trip characteristics (trip purpose, trip length, time of day and day of the week) and characteristics of households (income, number of persons, number of drivers and vehicle ownership). Comparisons are made with data from the 1969 NPTS to evaluate trends in occupancy rates over time.
