This surveillance report on alcohol-related fatal traffic crashes is one in a series of surveillance reports designed to provide useful data to researchers, planners, policymakers, and other professionals interested in alcohol abuse and its associated illnesses and mortality. It is hoped that these documents, prepared by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA's) Alcohol Epidemiologic Data System (AEDS), will serve as useful references for workers in the alcohol field. The report reflects both changes in alcohol-related fatal traffic crashes between 1999 and 2000 and trends over the period from 1977 through 2000
