A brief description is given of the Spacelab system and ideas on its role in earth resources surveys from space. The need for cooperative action is mentioned and arguments presented to show that the basis of cooperation needs to be established now if effective use is to be made of the potential of Spacelab and the automatic operational satellites that will follow.
