The proposed highway improvement entails the reconstruction of a segment of US Highway No. 6 and 34 commencing at the eastern city limits of Arapahoe and terminating at the southwest urban limits of Atlanta and located in Furnas, Harlan, and Phelps counties, and improvements on U.S. 136 located between Oxford, through Edison, and the junction of U.S. 6 - 34 and U.S. 136. The selected route is essentially on the present alignment of U.S. 6-34 from Arapahoe to Atlanta with minor relocation of Nebraska Highway No. 4 southwest of Atlanta so as to improve the geometrics of the highway in this area. There also will be minor relocations of U.S. 136 just west of Oxford, and north of Edison to improve the present highway geometrics, but the alignment selected will utilize the existing highway route to greatest extent possible. A summary of environmental impacts and adverse effects is given.
