Several proposals for pilot projects to demonstrate the benefits and usefulness of online collection and distribution of in situ ecological data by satellite and to contribute to the promotion of satellite communications in this sphere are presented. The pilot project proposals were elaborated in the frame of the ESA study 'Collection and Distribution of Ecological Data by Satellite' as proof of the concepts developed during this study. In particular, the following are reported: an agricultural information system; an animal tracking system; a radiation and smog early warning system; and a river and coastal water monitoring system.
