The Scientific Passenger Pod, referred to as the Piggy Back Pod, is a program to put a completely self contained research package into space. This pod will be attached to the side of the Atlas research vehicle by a spring loaded release mechanism capable of separating the pod from the missile. The object of this test was to functionally test the operation of the release system, the ground recovery system, and the landline release system. (Author)
