A new concept for the future provision of air traffic services in Germany was developed. The concept is called the Cooperative Air Traffic Management Concept (CATMAC). CATMAC is characterized by improved accuracy and higher reliability of planning data, and by adequate sharing of tasks between automated ground and airborne systems. The experience gained in the development and the operational evaluation of COMPAS (Computer Oriented Metering Planning Advisory System) were of great importance to the definition of the CATMAC concept.
