It was felt that a brief introduction into the practical design aspects of digital filters might be of interest to those who are already familiar with the principles and nomenclature of analog filters. The main body of the paper consists of a set of computer programs (written in BASIC) applicable to the design of a certain popular and economically realizable class of digital filters (i.e. recursive infinite impulse response filters). The appendix, on the other hand, presents a detailed explanation of terms used, a brief theoretical refresher of analog (i.e. continuous time) design methods, as well as a concise introduction into digital (i.e. discrete-time) design concepts.
