This report examines the use of photography from orbital altitudes to observe surface phenomena and conditions applicable to the earth sciences. In particular, the author makes an hypothesis about the circulation shown in the Salton Sea photographs taken on the Gemini V flight based on previous work and knowledge of this location. Some conclusions and recommendations on the use of photography from orbital platforms are presented based on photographs of the coast of Southern California from the Gemini IV flight and the Salton Sea from the Gemini V flight.
