Project S 0082(3), Carbondale-East contemplates the widening of a two mile section of Colorado State Highway 82 from a two-lane highway to a four lane highway. The most significant positive environmental impact will be the developement of a safer highway facility in an area which has experienced a high accident rate. The most adverse impact of the project is the relocation of some fourteen (14) people from three homes. The Colorado Division of Game, Fish and Parks has indicated that the improvement may substantially increase the deer-auto accidents. The Colorado Department of Highways is working closely with the Division of Game, Fish and Parks in an attempt to minimize this impact. The proposed alignment would require some twenty-five acres of additional Right-of-Way acquisition and consequently, the destruction of some plant life including several trees.
