The Foden/Rolls Royce Quiet Heavy Vehicle was publicly demonstrated in November 1978 and has since been on operational trials with a haulage contractor. A previous report (TRRL SR 521) described the co-operative program sponsored by TRRL and involving Fodens Ltd (now Sandbach Engineering), Rolls Royce Motors Ltd, Leyland Vehicles, MIRA, ISVR, and NEL and gave details of the research leading to the quietened components and the research vehicles. The present report details the development work which resulted in the fully engineered Foden/Rolls Royce demonstration vehicle.
