An attitude sensing system is described, enabling the pointing of a narrow beam communication satellite antenna to a specific earth terminal. The system uses a spacecraft transmitter of coded radio signals, which when received at the earth terminal provides a nonambiguous function of the spacecraft attitude angles with respect to the line of sight to the terminal itself. This solution permits a significant reduction of the complexity of the onboard equipment. The proposed system behaves like a monopulse system in which the receiving and transmitting functions are interchanged. The monopulse techniques are described, and errors and noise problems are surveyed. (Author)
