The invention is to effect this condition; that is, to remove from the line virtually any heave motion which may be introduced into the line by the action of the vessel. Specifically, this invention is to make borehole measurements feasible from a floating vessel with a logging line by eliminating from the line any vessel heave motion which is generated into the line by the vessel. The invention is essentially a compensating device which removes from the line the heave motion of the vessel. The sensing device feeds a control signal to the compensating unit measuring the vessel heave independently of a fixed reference. (Author)
