The Office of High Speed Ground Transportation (OHSGT) of the U. S. Department of Transportation is responsible for conducting research and development in high speed ground transportation technology and for demonstrating prototypes of advanced systems. As one of many activities in this broad area, OHSGT plans to undertake tests of a full-size engineering research and development tracked air cushion vehicle (TACV) and guideway system. This system is to provide information to advance the state-of-the-art in high speed ground transportation in respect to ride comfort, performance, efficiency and level of noise in operation. More specifically, the system test program (discussed in this report) is to provide the engineering data, the verified analytical tools and the design guidelines needed for the design of an attractive, high-performance public demonstration TACV and guideway system.
