Based on the principles of an electrochemical galvanic cell, a probe, with related data recording system, has been adopted for continuous monitoring of the corrosivity of naval environments, The probe has been used successfully to monitor the corrosivity on an aircraft carrier during an eight-month deployment. Current transients recorded during this period were analyzed and related to similar measurements made in controlled laboratory environments containing high humidity, chloride or chloride/SO2.
