This study effort concentrated upon the interaction between multiple car transit trains and elevated structures typical of a transit system. (Heavy rail transit is considered crossing elevated, simple span structures; such a system is under construction for the Dade County transit system.) The main objective of this study is to determine the dynamic impact factors generated by the vehicle train crossing the span and the accelerations in the vehicles generated by span motion. A dynamic interaction model has been formulated for multicar trains of vehicles traversing elevated span guideways. The model has been used to determine the dynamic loading impact factors generated by rail transit vehicles on elevated, simple span structures.
