The applications of small low Earth orbit satellites systems to data communications is analyzed both in terms of potential communications volume and satellite constellation configuration. A communications architecture is proposed and the configuration of the onboard processor is outlined. In conclusion, the economics of such systems are analyzed and compared with existing systems.
