The investigation supports the work of establishing improved ECE regulations for antilock systems that ensures acceptable performance under winter conditions. A series of tests on ice tracks has been conducted in order to further develop and evaluate a braking in a turn test on ice that has been proposed by Sweden to be part of the ECE braking regulations. The tests have been conducted with three passenger cars which were primarily equipped with winter tires without studs, some tests were, however, also made with studded tires. The anti-lock braking performance of these vehicles has also been tested on straight ice and gravel tracks and on split-friction, i.e. with ice surface for the wheels on one side and gravel surface for the wheels on the other side.
