The purpose of the research and development reported was to develop two advanced experimental electric cars known as Electric Test Vehicles (ETV's). Specific objectives were established for vehicle performance, safety, cost, and consumer acceptance. The vehicles were also specified to be suitable for production by the mid 1980's. Careful attention was given to the interactions between vehicle body and chassis, electrical drive subsystem, and propulsion battery. Electrical, mechanical and control interfaces were carefully analyzed and controlled to insure compatibility between subsystems. Subsystem and system analysis and design and test and evaluation efforts are described in full, and a brief manufacturing study is presented. (ERA citation 08:044124)
