In the concepting of the WABCO Rapid Transit Truck, we believed that improvements could be made which would be beneficial to the commuters using the system, as well as to the Bay Area Rapid Transit District in the form of reduced operating costs. These concepts consisted of providing a truck design which would give the passenger a good ride through the use of the HYDRAIR(R) suspension and truck components which would reduce wheel and rail wear, reduce noise level and reduce nosing or oscillation of the truck about the centerpin through the use of a torque proportioning differential and wheel tread shape.
