The report presents highlights of the year's accomplishments such as increasing minority business contracts to $60 million, increasing ridership by 5% and revenues by 6%, introducing unique new fare structure featuring lower base-day fares and higher peak-period fares, identifying 100 ways to cut rail construction costs. The year closed with 45.4 miles and 41 stations under construction. 4.6 miles are scheduled to open in March, 1976. Construction was delayed six months due to lack of funds, until the U.S. Department of Transportation and the District of Columbia transferred $286 million in unused federal highway funds to Metro. Eight major fires occurred on buses, of which seven were suspected to be arson. National Bureau of Standards tests resulted in a recommendation that Metrorail car seats be made of a more fire resistant material.
