The paper summarizes the operational requirements for automation of tactical mission planning and management. Based on these requirements the CAMPAL-system is reviewed which has presently been realized by the NLR in co-operation with the RNLAF. Some analysis software packages are highlighted since they provide the CAMPAL-system with unique planning features for penetration and attack. Finally attention is paid to the promises for tactical mission planning and management as suggested by recent advances in the area of knowledge engineering and Expert System.
