This is the final report of the DSB Task Force on Future of the Aircraft Carrier. The Task Force was tasked to address how aircraft carriers should serve the nation's defense needs in the 21st century and beyond. The task force considered the aircraft carrier's role, status, technology and environment. The report makes a strong case for the Navy to aggressively pursue new sea-based air system concepts as it replaces its aging carrier fleet. In their report the Task Force states that transforming today's carrier force into the most effective, affordable sea-based air system possible is mandatory as an indispensable component of future military capabilities.
