The U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center (DAC), Validation Engineering Division (SJMAC-DEV), was tasked by the Logistics Research and Development Activity (AMSRD-AAR-AIL-P), Picatinny, NJ to conduct transportability testing on the 120MM Composite Monopack Pallets. The testing was conducted in accordance with TP-94-01, Revision 2, June 2004 'Transportability Testing Procedures.' The objective of the testing was to evaluate the 120MM Composite Monopack Pallets, when transportability tested in accordance with TP-94-01, Revision 2, June 2004. The 120MM Composite Monopack Pallet is adequate to be transported in an intermodal container. During the rail impact testing in a boxcar the compression of the 120MM Composite Monopack Pallets was excessive and caused the pallets to bow upward and caused damage to one top pallet. There was also excessive movement of the 120MM Composite Monopack Pallets during testing. Therefore, the 120MM Composite Monopack Pallet stacked two high is not adequate to be transported by rail in a boxcar.
