We review the design and performance of the 100-kJ Nova laser used for inertial confinement fusion research. In particular, we describe a major upgrade to the Nova system which is in progress. We also discuss briefly the design of a potential 10-MJ, 1000 TW laser, which we have named Athena. 33 refs., 10 figs., 2 tabs. (ERA citation 13:055949)
